Amanda Ross currently serves as Assistant Professor of Trumpet, Director of the Oakland University Jazz Band, and coordinator of the jazz area at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan.  She enjoys an active playing career, currently serving as Principal Trumpet of the Oakland Symphony Orchestra and frequently performs with orchestras across Southeastern Michigan.  As a soloist, she recently was featured at both the 2025 International Women’s Brass Conference and 2024 International Trumpet Guild Conference performing new works for unaccompanied trumpet and trumpet and electronics, Did you see the Dragon? by Remi Inari and ALMANAC by Corey Smith.  She has performed with chamber ensembles across the country including International Contemporary Ensemble, Detroit Chamber Winds, and Ann Arbor Symphony Brass Quintet.  In 2022, she was part of the recording of John Luther Adams’ Sila - The Breath of the World, which was nominated for Best Orchestral Performance at the 2022 Grammy Awards. She is also co-founder of Girlnoise, a mixed-chamber ensemble committed to celebrating the artistry of women in contemporary chamber music.  Girlnoise’s broad repertoire includes original compositions, commissions, and arrangements of works spanning artists such as St. Vincent, Olivier Messiaen, Phoebe Bridgers, and Giovanni Palestrina.  The group has been featured artists at the New Music Gathering, Elastic Arts (Evanston, IL), and UMMA (Ann Arbor, MI). She previously held the position of Guest Artist Instructor at the University of Michigan.
