Dr. Kevin Miescke

Dr. Kevin Miescke serves as Teaching Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Music, teaching music theory at the undergraduate and graduate level, advising music majors and minors, and heading up the newly founded Center for Musician Health and Wellness. 


Kevin’s active performing career covers a wide range of styles and genres, performing with traditional orchestras and chamber ensembles, to jazz ensembles and Vegas stage shows. As a brass quintet player, Kevin was interim horn with the Dallas Brass from 2020-2021, and is a founding member of the Reno Modern Brass, an ensemble based in Reno, NV that focuses on commissioning and performing new and recent works. This ensemble released its self-titled debut album in 2024, featuring all new commissions for the group of brass and percussion, ranging from traditional quintet writing to improvisational music. 


Keeping a busy schedule as an orchestral horn player, Kevin performs regularly with the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra and Reno Chamber Orchestra, and has performed with ensembles including the Santa Fe Pro Musica, San Antonio Symphony, Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra, Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Peoria Symphony Orchestra, Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra, and held the second horn position with the Round Rock Symphony Orchestra from 2010-2012. 


Kevin has earned the degrees of Doctor of Music from Indiana University (2016), Master of Music from the University of Texas at Austin (2012), and Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Nevada, Reno (2009). Kevin’s principal teachers include Jeff Nelsen, Dale Clevenger, Richard Seraphinoff (natural horn), and Patrick Hughes.
